Love to Sing

Mersey Harmony interviewed on BBC Radio Merseyside

How lucky were we to be given a slot on BBC Radio Merseyside to promote our upcoming ‘Love To Sing’ course. Some members of the chorus along with our MD Luke Freeney learnt a new tag for the occasion

You can listen to the recording below.

Our Chair, Angela and MD, Luke did an excellent job answering questions fired at them during the interview. One of the questions asked of Angela was “why do you enjoy singing barbershop”. Angela responded with a barrage of answers but her main response was, “following each  rehearsal or sing out she goes away feeling uplifted”. Angela also made the point that, “barbershop makes such a wonderful sound”.

This comes as no surprise as Singing can have some of the same effects as exercise, like the release of endorphins, which give the singer an overall “lifted” feeling and are associated with stress reduction. It’s also an aerobic activity, meaning it gets more oxygen into the blood for better circulation, which tends to promote a good mood. This is heightened when people sing together in a group or choir.

If you fancy giving a cappella singing a try then why not join us on our 4 week Love to Sing course starting on Monday 25th March.
